Dental needles: small tools, big effects

Nov 15,2024

In the field of dentistry, every tool has its unique mission, and dental needles are no exception. It is not only a sharp weapon in the hands of dentists, but also an important part of ensuring the comfort and safety of patients.

Dental needles are exquisitely designed and mainly consist of three parts: needle tip, needle body and connector. The needle tip is the part that directly contacts human tissue, and its shape varies according to different treatment purposes; the needle body plays the role of connecting the needle tip and the syringe to ensure the smooth delivery of the liquid medicine; the connector is the bridge between the needle and the syringe to ensure that the two are closely connected. Usually, dental needles are made of stainless steel, which is not only biocompatible and not easy to cause allergic reactions, but also has strong corrosion resistance, which prolongs the service life of the needle.

Dental needles can be divided into several categories according to their functions. Anesthesia needles are the most common type. They have different thickness specifications, such as 27G and 30G. The small needle tip can achieve precise local anesthesia while reducing patient discomfort. Suction needles are mainly used to extract body fluid samples in the diagnosis of periodontal disease. The flushing needle is used for cleaning in the mouth. It removes food residues and bacteria by spraying high-pressure water to maintain oral health.

The correct use of dental needles is the key to ensuring treatment effectiveness and patient safety. Before starting any procedure, dentists need to carefully check whether the needle is damaged and select the appropriate model to meet treatment needs. When installing, make sure that the needle is tightly combined with the syringe to prevent liquid leakage or accidental needle detachment. During operation, the doctor's technique must be gentle and accurate to minimize damage to surrounding tissues. After the treatment, the used needles should be removed and properly disposed of in time to avoid the risk of cross infection.

The use of dental needles involves multiple safety considerations. All needles should be used once and never reused. This is a basic requirement to prevent the spread of diseases. Medical staff should take appropriate personal protective measures when handling needles, such as wearing gloves, masks and goggles to protect themselves from harm. Used needles should be placed in a special sharps collection container immediately to avoid environmental problems or threats to public health caused by random disposal. Regular training of medical staff to improve their knowledge and technical level of dental needle usage standards is of great significance to improving the overall quality of medical services and patient satisfaction.
